“My Glory Days Are Over — Now It’s About My Boys”

My boys and I went to visit my brother—their uncle—and spent some time with him. Before heading home, I took the boys to Moody Park, where we played two games. After that, we stopped at Halo Farm to grab some juices and ice cream.

While we were waiting in line, I noticed this guy who looked familiar. I’ve seen him at almost every big basketball game around Trenton, especially high school games and over at Cadwalader Park.

While I was paying, he walked up to my boys and asked, “Is that y’all dad?”

They said, “Yeah, that’s our dad.”

He immediately pointed at me and said, “He’s one of the best basketball players in the city.”

I looked up, we fist-bumped, and he walked away like it was nothing. 😂

My boys looked at me like, “Wait… are you REALLY him?” 😂

I said, “You heard the man!” 🤷🏾‍♂️😂

On the ride home, I could tell they’re finally starting to believe some of my basketball stories. The more random people recognize me anywhere and tell them how good their dad used to be, the more they believe it.

Meanwhile, I’m sitting there thinking… WHY y’all don’t believe your own dad, but some random person says it and suddenly it’s FACTS?! 😂😂😂

But I explained something important to them: my basketball glory days are over. Now it’s about YOU GUYS.

That’s why I stay on y’all. That’s why I push you to work hard. That’s why I tell you to listen when I’m trying to teach you something. Sometimes they get mad at me. Sometimes they get frustrated. Sometimes they probably think Dad is doing too much or don’t know nothing.

But I push them because I care, I believe in them, and I know what it takes.

I truly believe each one of them has the ability to become one of the best if they’re willing to work, listen, stay disciplined, and do everything they’re supposed to do—and then do MORE.

I already had my time.

I just wish there were some highlight videos or old game tapes of my basketball days so they could really see it for themselves—because seeing is believing.

Now I’m trying to help my boys create theirs. 🏀💯❤️
