Fatherhood never clocks out

Today I worked 12 hours.

By the time I got home, I was tired and ready to shut everything down for the night. But being a father doesn’t work like that.

Before I can really rest, I have to make sure my sons are good.

One was already asleep when I checked on him, he was already knocked out after football practice. That’s when it hit me — we all had a long day. The other two were in their room too, but it was too dark to even take a picture.

That moment made me think.

A job has a clock-in time and a clock-out time.

Fatherhood doesn’t.

No matter how long the shift was, how tired I am, or how much I have on my mind, I still come home as Dad.

I still have to make sure they ate, they’re safe, they handled what they needed to handle, and they know I’m there for them.

Some nights fatherhood is loud.

Other nights it looks like quietly checking on your children while they sleep after a long day.

Either way, you show up.

That’s the responsibility. That’s the sacrifice. That’s the love.

Fatherhood never clocks out.
